Wedding DJ FAQs
The DJ Company is a Cape Town wedding DJ specialist with branches in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban, and 28+ years experience since 1998, with 4,000+ weddings and events at 850+ venues. These are the questions couples, companies and would-be DJs ask before they book: what a wedding DJ costs and what is included, how we choose and level our DJs, how the music planning works, and what to ask your venue. If your question is not here, WhatsApp us on +27 72 330 6409 or email delilah@thedjcompany.co.za. We usually reply within minutes during office hours, and within 24 hours at the latest.
Weddings
The day itself: what a wedding package includes, how many hours it covers, whether you need a DJ, an MC or a live band, and how to choose between the packages for a small wedding or a large one.
Every package has one DJ from the ceremony to midnight, separate sound for the ceremony and the canapés, one setup for the reception and dance floor, party lighting with a laser and moving heads, a backup music source and microphone, and free extras. From Luxury up, the ceremony and canapés sound is in stereo. Deluxe brings a backlit DJ facade, Luxury a white booth under a lighting bridge and a production assistant, and Forever d&b audiotechnik sound, a black laser-cut booth, CO2 cannons, a production technician and a build crew.
You do not have to choose: live musicians can be added to any wedding DJ package. A DJ gives you one plan from your ceremony to midnight, with your must-play songs on the dance floor, while a saxophonist, pianist, string player or band can take the moments you want played live, such as canapés. Our co-owners are musicians as well as DJs: Liam Pitcher, Co-founder, CEO and Head DJ, is also a composer, musician, producer and music teacher, and Adrian Fowler, Head of Production, came to DJing as a musician.
You do not have to have one, but someone has to run the music and the microphone for every part of your day, and a playlist cannot cue your processional live or change as the room does. A DJ from The DJ Company cues your processional, signing and recessional live, plays background music over canapés, supplies the speech microphone and runs the dance floor until midnight. Sound, lighting, a backup music source and a backup microphone come with every Cape Town wedding DJ package.
You need an MC only if you want your entrances, speeches, cake cutting and first dance announced. The MC is the voice of the day, while the DJ chooses and plays the music and runs the sound, and one person can do both. Most of our DJs are capable MCs, though not all, so ask for one who is and we’ll match you. A dedicated professional MC in Cape Town can be arranged as a specialised service at extra cost. If a friend or relative takes the mic, add their details to the MC section of the Wedding Music Request Form.
Every wedding package from The DJ Company runs from your ceremony to midnight with one DJ, so your hours are the time between your ceremony start and midnight. A 3pm ceremony, for example, means your package covers 3pm to midnight. Setup is done before your guests arrive, because your DJ comes 3 to 4 hours early. If you would like the dancing to carry on past midnight, tell us when you enquire.
Picture your dance floor after the first dance and choose by who’s on it, because each package comes with a different level of DJ. The Deluxe Package brings a Signature Wedding DJ for a classic day with guests of similar ages, The Luxury Package an Elite Wedding DJ for guests of every age, and The Forever Package a Master Wedding DJ for a crowd of every age and culture. If you’re torn between two, get in touch with us and we’ll point you to the right one.
Yes. Musicians can be booked with a DJ package or on their own, for any part of the day. You can choose a saxophonist, pianist, string player, singer with a guitar, jazz duo or trio, string quartet or a party band, and other combinations are quoted on request. The Luxury and Forever packages set up the canapés sound ready for a live musician to join.
Yes. For a big crowd or a wedding spread over several areas, The Forever Package brings a Master Wedding DJ, d&b audiotechnik sound with four 18-inch subwoofers, a production technician and a build crew. If your wedding is larger or more complex than a package covers, we quote it to suit: send us your venue, your guest numbers and your finish time, and more sound for each part of the day, stages, dance floors, screens, special effects and live musicians can be added.
Yes. For an intimate ceremony in Cape Town, The Deluxe Package gives you a vetted DJ from the ceremony to midnight, a compact ceremony speaker and microphone, a separate canapés speaker and a full reception setup with lighting. In Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban, The Signature Package is the simplest option, made for a smaller or simpler celebration. Choose by who will be dancing, and we’ll help you pick the right fit.
Booking
How to check your date, how far ahead couples book, and what we need from you to give a quote. A deposit and a contract secure your date.
Book your wedding DJ as soon as your venue is confirmed. Couples book with The DJ Company anywhere from a few months to a year or more ahead, so it is worth asking as soon as your date is set. Send your date and venue through Check Availability, and if the date is not set yet, a best guess is fine: we will tell you whether it is free.
Start with Check Availability: send your date and venue, or WhatsApp +27 72 330 6409, with no commitment. We check your date, match a DJ to your crowd and your music, and usually reply within minutes during office hours and within 24 hours at the latest. A deposit and a contract secure your wedding date, and we send the contract with your invoice. Your must-play and Don’t Play songs go on the Wedding Music Request Form.
Yes. A deposit and a contract secure your wedding date, and we send the contract with your invoice. If you have questions about the paperwork, ask on WhatsApp at +27 72 330 6409 before you book.
Your name, phone or WhatsApp number and email, your date and venue, and what you need: a DJ, sound, lighting or live musicians. The form also asks for start and end times and your number of guests, and estimates are fine; if your date is not set, a best guess works. Travel to your venue is quoted separately, so the venue matters. Send it all through Check Availability.
We usually reply within minutes during office hours, and within 24 hours at the latest. Most couples’ first conversation is with Delilah, our Managing Director. If you would rather talk it through, WhatsApp or call our bookings team on +27 72 330 6409.
Yes. Our Elite Wedding DJ, who comes with The Luxury Package, plans the day closely with you and your planner, and our Master Wedding DJ, who comes with The Forever Package, also works closely with your venue team and musicians. If you choose The Deluxe Package, tell us who is planning your day when you check availability. Our Vendor Relations team works with the planners, venues and suppliers we share weddings with.
Prices
What our packages cost and what is in each price. Wedding prices are listed for Cape Town, for Johannesburg and Pretoria, and for Durban. Travel to your venue is always quoted separately, and every figure here is the figure on our package pages.
Our wedding DJ packages cost R24,999 to R79,999 in Cape Town, R16,999 to R79,999 in Johannesburg and Pretoria, and R26,999 to R89,999 in Durban. They are priced by the package, not by the hour: each one covers one DJ from the ceremony to midnight, with sound and lighting, and travel is quoted separately. The Cape Town wedding DJ packages page shows what each one includes.
From your walk down the aisle to the last song at midnight, a Cape Town wedding DJ from The DJ Company costs R24,999 with The Deluxe Package. The Luxury Package is R49,999 and The Forever Package is R79,999. Sound and lighting come with all three, and each step up brings a more experienced DJ, more lighting and more crew. Travel is quoted separately, depending on where your venue is.
In Johannesburg and Pretoria, The Signature Package is R16,999, The Deluxe Package is R24,999, The Luxury Package is R49,999 and The Forever Package is R79,999. The Deluxe, Luxury and Forever Packages cost the same as in Cape Town, with the same DJ tier, lighting, crew and free extras, so a Johannesburg or Pretoria wedding costs no more than a Cape Town one on the same package; in Johannesburg and Pretoria, The Luxury Package’s column speakers have two 18-inch subwoofers. Travel to the venue is quoted separately. Durban has prices of its own.
Durban has four wedding DJ packages: The Signature Package at R26,999, The Deluxe Package at R34,999, The Luxury Package at R59,999 and The Forever Package at R89,999. Each includes your DJ, sound and lighting from your ceremony until midnight, and travel to your venue is quoted on top. A wedding outside the packages gets a quote of its own.
No. Travel is not in the package price for weddings, events or corporate functions: it is quoted separately, depending on where your venue is. We quote it once we know where your event is, so tell us your venue when you enquire. Our branches and the areas they cover are on our About page.
At The DJ Company the price rises with the DJ’s experience, the lighting and production, and the crew, from a Signature Wedding DJ with The Deluxe Package to a Master Wedding DJ with The Forever Package. Each step up also adds one more free extra. Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria share prices for those three, and Durban has its own. The Cape Town wedding DJ packages page sets the three side by side.
Deluxe includes 1 free extra, Luxury 2 and Forever 3. You choose them after booking from the same nine shown on each packages page: UV bars, a smoke machine, uplighters, flood lights, a motorised disco ball, moving heads, a laser, a strobe and a DJ facade. Every Cape Town wedding package already has haze or smoke, and The Forever Package adds two CO2 cannons, all venue permitting. Paid add-ons are quoted on top: a smoke bubble machine, a low fog machine, a confetti cannon, live musicians, dance floors, and stage and structure, all shown on the Cape Town wedding DJ packages page. Effects can also be hired.
DJs
Who plays your event and how we choose them: our seven steps, the four levels from Rising to Master, asking for a DJ by name, and what happens if your DJ falls ill. You can meet every DJ on our DJs page.
A replacement DJ steps in, held to the same standard as the DJ you booked, so your wedding never goes without one. Your music and your microphone each have a backup, and your DJ arrives 3 to 4 hours early to be set up before your guests arrive.
Most of our DJs are capable MCs, though not all, so tell us you’d like one who is and we’ll match you. If you want a dedicated MC, we also work with professional MCs in Cape Town and can arrange one as a specialised service, quoted over and above your package.
Choose a good wedding DJ by what you can check: how they were vetted, the level of experience your package gives you, Google reviews from past clients, and a full set you can watch or hear. At The DJ Company every new DJ comes through seven steps, from a press kit review to a trial gig, and you can ask for any DJ by name. Our About page explains how we choose and level our DJs.
Yes, if the DJ you ask for is free on your date and plays at the level your package includes. Ask for a DJ by name when you enquire. If you would rather we choose, or your DJ is not free, we match a DJ to your crowd and your music.
Yes, ask when you enquire. Some of our DJs have full sets on video, and we also have full sets in audio, so we can share what we have for the DJ you’re considering. We also put together custom playlists on request for each occasion.
Ask who will actually play, whether you can see or hear a full set, and what happens if the DJ falls ill. Then ask about backup equipment, the venue’s sound limit, load-shedding and MC cover, and get the terms in a contract. At The DJ Company you can ask for a DJ by name, and if they are free on your date and at your package’s level, they play. You are welcome to put any of these questions to us on WhatsApp at +27 72 330 6409 before you book.
A wedding DJ plans and plays the music for your whole day, from the ceremony to the last song, and sets up the sound to carry it. With us that means cueing your processional, signing and recessional music live, playing background music for the ceremony and canapés, and taking the dance floor from the speeches to the last song. You can meet our DJs on our DJs page.
In seven steps. We review every DJ’s press kit and past work, meet the promising ones and call their references. Each new DJ plays a trial event, and we collect the client’s feedback and coach them on what to work on. DJs move up our levels as five-star feedback comes in, and at every event they arrive 3 to 4 hours early, with a replacement DJ if one ever falls ill.
Each package names its DJ’s level. The Deluxe Package comes with a Signature Wedding DJ, The Luxury Package an Elite Wedding DJ and The Forever Package a Master Wedding DJ. In Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban, The Signature Package comes with a Rising Wedding DJ.
Yes, and that is why each package names its DJ’s level, from Rising to Master. DJs move up our levels as five-star feedback comes in. An Elite Wedding DJ, who comes with The Luxury Package, is confident with first dances and complex timelines, and a Master Wedding DJ, who comes with The Forever Package, is made for a crowd of every age and culture.
New DJs play a trial gig where we check they are on time, professional and know the equipment inside out, and every DJ arrives 3 to 4 hours early so everything is set up before guests arrive. Each wedding package covers one DJ from your ceremony to midnight, and a replacement DJ steps in if yours falls ill.
A club DJ plays to a room that came to dance, while a wedding DJ also runs the flow of your day. Ours cue the processional, signing and recessional music live, take the night from speeches to dancing, and read guests of different ages. Each package names its DJ’s level, from Rising to Master, and you can see how we choose your DJ on our About page.
Mostly, yes: the DJs who play Johannesburg weddings for The DJ Company are largely Gauteng-based, and for certain weddings one of our Cape Town DJs travels up to play. Every one of them is vetted, trained and held to a consistent standard, and matched to the level of your package.
Music
How you plan the music. The Wedding Music Request Form takes your must-play songs, a Don’t Play list, your genres and your guests’ ages and languages. These answers also cover Spotify playlists, family and cultural music, and music licensing.
By knowing your guests before the night starts, and reading the room on the night. On the Wedding Music Request Form you give your DJ your must-plays, a Don’t Play list, the genres you want and how your guests split by age and language, and your DJ adjusts to the room as it fills. Every Cape Town wedding package lights the dance floor with moving heads and a laser, and from The Luxury Package up, lighting scenes are set for the arrival, dinner, speeches, first dance and the party.
Yes, both are included in every package. You choose the songs for your Cape Town wedding and add a Don’t Play list of songs and genres to leave out, all on our Wedding Music Request Form. The form also covers the background music for your ceremony, canapés and reception, and the songs for moments like your processional, signing the register, cutting the cake and your first dance. Add as many dance floor requests as you like, and your DJ arrives knowing your must-plays and your never-plays.
Yes. The Wedding Music Request Form has a playlists section where you paste Spotify links for your background music, your dance floor and anything else, and your DJ plans your music from it. We also make custom playlists on request for each occasion.
Plan it on our Wedding Music Request Form, which takes you through your day in order. It asks for the background music at your ceremony, canapés and dinner, the songs for moments such as your processional, first dance and cutting the cake, the genres you want and a Don’t Play list. It also asks about your guests’ ages and languages, so your DJ can shape the dance floor around the people on it. Your DJ plans your music from it, whichever wedding DJ package you choose.
Music played in public in South Africa is licensed by two bodies, SAMRO and SAMPRA, and The DJ Company’s music licensing is with both. SAMRO licenses the songs and pays composers, authors and publishers, and SAMPRA licenses the recordings and pays recording artists and record labels. Our licensing is listed with the company facts on the About page.
Yes, your DJ plans the night around the genres and songs you choose on the Wedding Music Request Form. It lists more than 20 genres and styles, from the 50s to amapiano, Gqom, Afrobeats, Afrikaans and langarm, has space for anything else, and asks what share of your guests speak English, Afrikaans, Xhosa or another language, and how many fall into each age group. A notes box takes anything else your DJ should know. For a crowd of every age and culture, The Forever Package brings a Master Wedding DJ.
Yes. A DJ from The DJ Company takes your party from background music to a full dance floor, so the same DJ looks after the quieter start of your party and the dancing later on. On our Event Music Request Form you choose the background style, from light jazz to acoustic guitar, and list your dance floor requests and a Don’t Play list.
Sound and lighting
The speakers, microphones and lighting each wedding package brings, what happens in a power cut or load-shedding, and how to hire sound, lighting, screens and staging without a DJ.
Every wedding package brings separate sound for the ceremony and the canapés, plus a reception setup with a DJ controller and wireless microphones, with a backup music source and a backup microphone on hand. In Cape Town, The Deluxe Package uses two 15-inch speakers with two 15-inch subwoofers, The Luxury Package column speakers with built-in bass, and The Forever Package d&b audiotechnik speakers with four 18-inch subwoofers. Our event and corporate DJ packages, which are charged by the hour, scale from two 12-inch speakers on poles with The Vibe Package to d&b audiotechnik speakers and four 18-inch subwoofers, tuned and watched all night by a production technician, with The Headliner Package.
Bluetooth speakers are available to keep the music going through a power cut, and for larger weddings and events we can bring generators at an additional cost. Backup power is not included unless requested, so tell us about your venue’s power when you enquire, and whether load-shedding could touch your date, and we’ll plan around the venue’s supply.
Yes. Every wedding package has its own sound for the ceremony, its own for the canapés and one setup for the reception, from the speeches to the last song, and the processional, signing and recessional music is cued live. The Deluxe Package has a speaker and a wireless microphone on a stand at the ceremony, while The Luxury Package and The Forever Package play it in stereo with two wireless handheld microphones.
Every wedding package includes wireless microphones, and a backup microphone is on hand. The Deluxe Package has one for the ceremony and one for speeches, The Luxury Package two handheld microphones for the ceremony and two for speeches, and The Forever Package digital wireless microphones for the ceremony, canapés and reception, run by a production technician. On our event and corporate packages, one wireless microphone comes with The Vibe Package and The Celebration Package, two with The Showstopper Package, and two digital wireless microphones with The Headliner Package.
Lighting sets the mood for each part of the day, from warm, elegant light for the formalities to full party lighting once the dancing starts. Every Cape Town wedding package lights the dance floor with moving heads and a laser, and the rig grows with the package. The Deluxe Package has two moving heads, four PAR cans and six flood lights; The Luxury Package has four moving heads, eight uplighters, two UV bars and a strobe; The Forever Package has twelve PAR cans, ten uplighters and a laser run by a licensed laser technician. Haze, smoke and CO2 are venue permitting.
Equipment can be hired without a DJ. Requests are made through the form on the hire page, which lists what can be hired, and a quote is sent in reply. The hire list includes 55-inch and 69-inch televisions with stands, LED screens, stages in small, medium, large and custom sizes, and truss totems, truss goalposts and custom structures. The equipment is collected and returned by the client, or delivered and set up for a quoted fee; a technician to run it on the night is optional and quoted too, and travel is quoted separately.
Venues
Your venue and ours: where we work, whether we have played it, the sound limit, what to ask your venue before you book, and what time your DJ arrives to set up.
Yes. Most venues limit the sound to 90 dB or less after a certain time, so we work with your venue and its dB meter and keep the sound below the threshold wherever one applies. We tune the system with a graphic EQ, so the dance floor still sounds full within the limit. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we’ll plan around its rules.
We have branches in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban. Our Cape Town head office in Claremont, our home since 1998, plays weddings and events within 600 km, across the Cape Winelands, the Overberg, the West Coast and the Garden Route, from Stellenbosch and Hermanus to Yzerfontein and Plettenberg Bay. Our Johannesburg and Pretoria branches cover Gauteng, and our Durban branch in Berea travels to weddings across KwaZulu-Natal. Travel to your venue is always quoted separately.
Ask your venue five things: when the music has to stop, what sound limit applies and from what time (we stay under it, working with the venue’s dB meter), when suppliers can arrive, what power it has, and whether effects such as haze, smoke, CO2 or lasers are allowed. Our venues page shows where we have played, and when you enquire we’ll plan around your venue’s rules.
For a wedding, party or corporate function, a DJ from The DJ Company usually arrives 3 to 4 hours before the start time, depending on how big the setup is. Very large setups take longer, and some are set up the day before. It’s worth checking when your venue lets suppliers in, so we can plan the arrival around it.
Quite possibly: we have played weddings and events at 850+ venues since 1998, including Val de Vie, Nooitgedacht Estate and The Lookout at the V&A Waterfront. They range from wine estates across Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl, such as Dieu Donné Vineyards, to coastal venues such as Clifton 1st Beach and Blouberg Beach Hotel. Our venues page lists 201 of them by area and is a selection, so a venue that isn’t listed may still be one we have played.
Events and corporate
Questions from companies and party hosts: what a corporate or party DJ costs by the hour, how many hours they play and what extra hours cost, microphones, technicians, lighting and free extras. Our Johannesburg and Pretoria branches cover these events too.
Corporate DJ packages from The DJ Company are charged by the hour in Cape Town, on the same four packages as our party and event DJs: The Vibe Package is R2,000 per hour, The Celebration Package, our Most Popular Choice, is R3,600 per hour, The Showstopper Package is R6,000 per hour and The Headliner Package is R10,000 per hour. Every package has a five-hour minimum, extra hours cost the same hourly rate and setup time is never charged. Sound and lighting come with all four, growing from a lit DJ facade on The Vibe Package to a truss goalpost and a production technician on The Headliner Package. Travel isn’t included in the package price and is quoted separately for your venue.
A DJ for a birthday or private party in Cape Town is charged by the hour on one of four packages, with a five-hour minimum and no charge for setup time. The Vibe Package is R2,000 per hour (R10,000 for the minimum), The Celebration Package, our Most Popular Choice, is R3,600 per hour, The Showstopper Package is R6,000 per hour and The Headliner Package is R10,000 per hour. The higher you go, the bigger the setup, from a lit DJ facade with a T-bar of lights on The Vibe Package to a truss goalpost with a production technician on The Headliner Package. Sound and lighting come with all four. Travel comes as a separate quote, and a party that doesn’t fit a package is quoted to suit.
Yes. Speeches and announcements are covered by every corporate DJ package: one wireless microphone comes with The Vibe Package and The Celebration Package, two with The Showstopper Package, and two digital wireless microphones with The Headliner Package. The Headliner Package also includes a production technician who tunes and watches the sound all night. Tell us your programme, its fixed times and how many people will speak when you enquire, and we match the DJ to your audience and your running order.
We recommend a DJ who takes the night from background music and speeches to a full dance floor. Our corporate DJs work on four packages, charged by the hour, from The Vibe Package to The Headliner Package, and we will recommend the one that suits the size of your room and the length of your programme. Live musicians can be added for any part of the event, and for a bigger production we can quote stages, trussing and TV screens as paid add-ons.
Yes. For a large corporate event, The Headliner Package is our biggest setup: d&b audiotechnik sound with four 18-inch subwoofers, a truss goalpost over the booth, two digital wireless microphones and a production technician who tunes and watches the sound all night. For a bigger production we can also quote stages, trussing and TV screens as paid add-ons. An MC is not included, but a professional one in Cape Town can be arranged at extra cost.
The Headliner Package includes a production technician who tunes and watches the sound all night, so your DJ can focus on the crowd. On The Vibe Package, The Celebration Package and The Showstopper Package your DJ runs the sound as well as the music. Tell us about your function when you enquire, including the size of the room and the length of your programme, and we’ll recommend the package that suits it.
Lighting is part of every corporate DJ package from The DJ Company, and it scales with the package you choose. The Vibe Package brings a DJ facade lit from behind and PAR cans on a T-bar, The Celebration Package adds moving heads, a laser and flood lights on totems, The Showstopper Package a lighting bridge with moving heads, uplighters, UV bars and a strobe, and The Headliner Package a truss goalpost with beam moving heads, uplighters, UV bars, a strobe and a laser. Free extras come with every package except The Vibe Package, up to three with The Headliner Package, such as a motorised disco ball or flood lights, and for a bigger production we can quote stages, trussing and TV screens as paid add-ons.
Every party and event package from The DJ Company is booked for at least five hours of playing time, and your DJ’s setup time is never charged. If you’d like the dancing to carry on, each extra hour is charged at your package’s hourly rate, which starts at R2,000 per hour on The Vibe Package and rises to R10,000 per hour on The Headliner Package. Share your start and end times when you enquire, even as an estimate, and we’ll plan the night around them.
Free extras come with every event DJ package from The DJ Company except The Vibe Package: one with The Celebration Package, two with The Showstopper Package and three with The Headliner Package. You pick them from our list of nine, which includes a motorised disco ball, flood lights and a DJ facade, or ask us to choose for you, and they come on top of everything the package already has. Bigger additions such as a confetti cannon, a low fog machine or a dance floor are paid add-ons, quoted over and above your package.
Yes. As well as Cape Town and venues up to 600 km away, The DJ Company provides DJs for birthdays, parties and private events in Johannesburg and Pretoria, and our corporate DJs cover year-end functions and company events there too. We have branches on Riverside Road in Johannesburg and in Elardus Park, Pretoria. Travel is always quoted separately, so tell us where your event is when you enquire.
DJ course
Learning to DJ with Liam Pitcher at Alphen Glen in Wynberg: what the Group Workshop and the One-on-One course cost and how they differ, what equipment we provide, and how to book.
Our Group Workshop is R4,999 for one four-hour workshop. The One-on-One course is R19,999 for ten private one-hour classes, with an official private certificate at the end. We provide the equipment for both.
The Group Workshop is one four-hour session for up to 5 people, covering mixing, beatmatching, crowd reading and set building. The One-on-One course is ten private classes in your own time slot, at your own pace, from the basics to pro mashups, scratching, advanced transitions and how to get gigs.
The course is led by Liam Pitcher, CEO and Head DJ of The DJ Company, which has 28+ years experience since 1998. Liam does the teaching himself, and he is also a composer, musician, producer and music teacher. Read about the course on our DJ course page.
No. The Group Workshop starts with the basics, and the One-on-One course is shaped around your level, whether you’re starting out or already playing.
No. We provide the equipment for the Group Workshop and for every One-on-One class, so you learn on our DJ gear from the start.
The One-on-One course ends with an official private certificate. The Group Workshop is a single four-hour session and doesn’t include one. The certificate comes after ten private one-hour classes, and you can compare both courses on our DJ course page.
Both courses are held at Alphen Glen, 4 Berwick Street, Wynberg, Cape Town. The Group Workshop runs there every week, and the One-on-One classes are held in a time slot you choose. Both are on our DJ course page.
The Group Workshop runs every week, but the day changes from week to week, so tell us what suits you and we’ll send you the next dates. Each workshop is one four-hour session for up to 5 people at Alphen Glen in Wynberg, with all the equipment provided and hands-on time on the decks. You can ask for dates from our DJ course page.
Compare six things: who teaches, how many hours you get, class size, whether equipment is provided, whether you finish with a certificate, and whether the course covers playing real events. Ours is a four-hour Group Workshop for up to 5 people, or ten private one-hour One-on-One classes with an official private certificate, on equipment we provide, in Wynberg, Cape Town. Student reviews are on our DJ course page.
Tap Check Availability, choose your course and send us your details. We’ll come back to you personally with dates, and there’s no commitment required. The form also asks about your DJ experience and when you want to start, and you can WhatsApp us on +27 72 330 6409 instead. Start from our DJ course page.
About The DJ Company
Who we are: how the business began in 1998 as Hey Mr DJ, who runs it today, how long it has been running, what makes us different, and what our clients say.
Yes. We have 200+ verified 5-star Google reviews, and every review can be read in full on Google. A selection sits on our About page, and some DJ profiles show the Google reviews that name that DJ, so you can read what past couples said about the people who may play your night.
The DJ Company was named Best DJ Hire in the Western Cape by LuxLife and has 200+ verified 5-star Google reviews. Which DJ is right for you depends on your crowd, your venue and your music, so compare any company on its reviews, full sets and how it vets its DJs; ours are chosen in seven steps. On our DJs page you can meet each DJ, and where clients have named a DJ in a Google review, the profile shows it.
The DJ Company is a Cape Town wedding DJ specialist, with its head office in Claremont and branches in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban. It began in 1998 as Hey Mr DJ, started by Warren Morse, and is led today by Liam Pitcher, Co-founder, CEO and Head DJ. Weddings are our main focus, and we also provide DJs for corporate functions, year end functions, birthdays and private events, hire out sound and lighting, and run a DJ course. Our About page tells the full story.
Both our co-owners, Liam Pitcher and Adrian Fowler, are musicians as well as DJs, and they lead a team of DJs held to one standard. Every new DJ comes through our seven-step process and moves up our levels as five-star feedback comes in. You can ask for your DJ by name, and a replacement DJ steps in if one falls ill.
Liam Pitcher is Co-founder, CEO and Head DJ, Adrian Fowler is co-owner and Head of Production, and Delilah Yeowart is Managing Director. Liam and Adrian also play as DJs, and Delilah runs the business day to day, so she is usually the first person couples speak to.
Warren Morse started the business in Cape Town in 1998 as Hey Mr DJ. Liam Pitcher joined in 2013 and became Head DJ in 2014, and he and Warren relaunched it as The DJ Company, so the two are its co-founders. Liam took it over in 2018 and leads it as Co-founder, CEO and Head DJ.
